About
LOCALSTUDIO
At Local Studio, we bring global perspectives to local places, designing with the world in mind and for the communities we serve. We practise thoughtful, deliberate architecture – responsive to place, and to your needs and budget – so that each project is shaped with care, time and purpose.
Grounded in local experience, knowledge and understanding, and guided by a sense of global responsibility, we support our clients through every stage – from concept to completion – with clear communication and realistic timeframes. We craft sustainable futures one place at a time, creating timeless spaces with lasting impact through a transparent, collaborative process you can depend on.
FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT
Jason Border is the founder and Principal Architect of Local Studio, a practice dedicated to thoughtful, small-scale public and residential projects. With more than 25 years of architectural experience, Jason brings a deep understanding of place, community and design craft to every commission.
Since establishing Local Studio in 2011, he has collaborated with and consulted for award-winning architectural practices including the NSW Government Architect’s Office and Paul Berkemeier Architect. From 2017 to 2025 he served as Director of BTB Architecture Studio, gaining extensive experience with local councils on small to medium-scale public works and a wide range of residential projects.
Earlier in his career Jason was an Associate at MCK Architects, contributing to acclaimed projects such as Newtown House, Carrington Road Affordable Housing and Darling Point House – which received the NSW RAIA Wilkinson Award for Residential Architecture in 2011. A graduate with Honours from the University of Newcastle, he began his career at the NSW Public Works Department, gaining a solid foundation in public buildings and community-focused design while working alongside leading architects, including Kerry and Lindsay Clare, recipients of the RAIA Gold Medal in 2010.
Today, Jason leads Local Studio with the belief that architecture at every scale should be purposeful, responsive and enduring.
